Dogs with Jobs: Tuckered out at Teagle

With a wag and a smile, dogs simply make the working world better. In this series, we explore the lives of local dogs who go to work with their people.
Starting out as a stray on the streets of Alexandria, 10-year-old Benny is now an office pup at Teagle Insurance Agency, Gloucester, where he can enjoy naps, pets and treats on demand in a comfortable, temperature-controlled building year-round.
“He usually naps,” said owner Sydney Early who is Teagle’s vice president. “A lot of people don’t know he’s here.”
Benny spends most of his days curled up under Early’s desk in a cushy bed, fast asleep.
Early adopted Benny in 2021 from Homeward Trails in Alexandria for the express purpose of turning him into an office dog.
“He was a little city boy up there,” said Early. “He was roaming the streets.”
Benny was brought to the shelter with a long, matted coat. Once he was bathed and cleaned up, the shelter found a tumor on his shoulder. Testing was revealed that the tumor was malignant and surgery...
