Dodgeball tournament, GHS senior project, nets $1,500+ for Woodville Park

Hundreds of participants and spectators took part in Saturday’s dodgeball tournament at Gloucester High School, a fundraiser for Woodville Park. The tournament, a senior project of GHS student Ryan Mahoney, netted $1,551 through entry fees, a 50/50 raffle, concessions, a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night and donations.

Mahoney presented the tournament proceeds to Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism director Carol Steele prior to the championship match.

Sixteen teams of all ages and skill levels competed in the double-elimination event. Baystars FC’s Barracudas and Hammerheads teams played a series of exhibition games and served as ballboys and ballgirls throughout the event. The “Dodgefathers” were crowned the eventual champions, advancing through the tournament undefeated.
