Dixon named Retired Educator of the Year

Sylvia Dixon was named the 2022 Retired Educator of the Year on June 23 by the Gloucester Retired Educators Association. She was honored during a luncheon at the Gloucester DAV Building on Professional Drive.

The organization said its honorees are chosen based on their dedication to GREA, dedication to helping young people in the community, and contributions to the community.

During her 40-year career, Dixon taught for 39 of those years in Gloucester County, starting at Gloucester Intermediate School and continuing as part of the initial planning team that helped to design and name Peasley Middle School, which opened in 1990. She holds both a bachelor of science and master’s degrees in mathematics and has taught eighth grade math, pre-algebra, algebra, and honors geometry. She is married to Harrison Dixon, who is also a retired teacher. They have two children (both of whom attended classes taught by their parents) and one grandchild.
