A fundraising event hosted by the Gwynn’s Island Civic League Foundation on Sept. 10 at The Seafood Shack in Mathews raised $761 to provide two instruments to the Mathews High School music department—a marching baritone and a mellophone. The instruments were in the hands of the students less than two weeks after the fundraiser, said a press release. “We are proud to uphold and demonstrate our ‘money in–money out’ philosophy,” said the release. “Funds raised get put to use as quickly as possible.” In addition to The Seafood Shack, contributions were made by Gloucester Refuse, The Inn at Tabbs Creek, and the Scott Bailey and John Mathiesen families.
