Dictionary Project

The Abingdon Ruritan Club attended an assembly in April for the third grade class at Achilles Elementary School, presenting a dictionary to each student. In addition to their dictionaries, the students had a chance to win a thesaurus and a synonym/antonym book by writing essays explaining why they love their dictionaries. Two winners were announced at the Abingdon Ruritan meeting on June 13. They were invited to dinner with their family and were given their new books. Club member Barbara Priest is shown with winners Aubree Bent, at left, and Khaleesi Rivera. Bent drew a puppy picture from the dictionary and wrote the reason she loves her dictionary is, “So I can be a smarter girl.” Rivera wrote, “It is so cool and colorful and it tells me so much about everything. I love to read and learn.”
