DIANNE IRENE BARON

Dianne Irene Baron, 79, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016.

She grew up in Schenectady, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late William and Irene Becker. She also lived in Binghamton, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Daytona Beach, Fla., Portsmouth, Va. and Gloucester, Va.

After she raised her four children, she attended Tidewater Community College and earned an Associate Degree in Music and attended Old Dominion University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught first grade in Portsmouth for many years and also taught piano from her home since the sixties, which she loved to do. 

She also volunteered her time in the community with the Navy Family Services Center in Norfolk, Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester, New Parents in Portsmouth, and the Community Emergency Response Team in Gloucester. With her love for music she sang in the Magic of Harmony show chorus in Newport News.

With her husband, they designed and had built their dream retirement home in Gloucester County known as “the Cabin” on “the Land” located on five acres of wooded land. She enjoyed traveling with her family, having visited many national parks and monuments around the country as well as visits to Canada, England, France, Belgium and Scotland.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ronald Baron; her children, David Baron, Richard Baron, Laurie Oreka, and Amie Toole; her grandchildren, whom she enjoyed watching at their  sporting and academic events, Michael Oreka, Tiffany Waymont, Kristi Oreka Carter, and Matthew Baron; her siblings, Lornna Mitchell, Bill Becker, and Greg Becker; and her Golden Retriever mix Holly.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, Va.
