Devils win 2 over Carver

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team closed out its 2017 regular season in convincing fashion, posting a pair of slaughter rule wins over Carver Academy.

The Devils head into post-season play as the top-ranked team in Conference 42 play with a 9-1 conference record; 12-2 overall. The conference tournament begins next Wednesday, May 24.

Mathews traveled to Chester last Wednesday to face the Wolverines on their home turf. Last year, Mathews had defeated Carver by the slaughter rule both times that they played them; but this year, Carver beat Middlesex, 6-1, and West Point only beat them, 2-0, demonstrating they had improved.

It quickly became clear that although Carver Academy had gotten better, they weren’t all the Blue Devils had thought they were. Tyler Jackson would be the first person to score for Mathews, and Jordan Bozza soon followed with his own goal assisted by Scooter Ransone.
