Devils to play Middlesex tonight for conference title

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team continued its win streak this past week, improving its overall record to 17-3. The win streak continued on into the playoffs, as Mathews crushed the visiting Charles City Panthers, 25-0, in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Mathews will host Middlesex tonight in the Conference 42 championships, starting at 5 o’clock.

Last Wednesday, the Devils squared off against non-conference opponent Bruton, hoping to create some momentum going into postseason play. Brian Owens got the start on the mound, against Tyler Floyd, who has committed to pitch for Averett University next year. The two teams stayed with each other going into the fourth inning, with the Devils clinging to a 3-2 lead.
