Devils roll over Middlesex, Charles City

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ baseball team improved to 12-3 this past week, putting up conference wins against Middlesex and Charles City.

The Devils traveled to Middlesex High School’s new sports complex last Thursday night, looking to improve to 3-0 in Conference 42 play.

The game was expected to be a good one, and the Devils came out rolling putting up eight runs before Chargers’ pitcher Matt Horne even recorded an out. The Devils rounded out the first inning with 12 runs, which was more than enough for Devil pitcher Willie Fernald. Due to some defensive miscues, the Chargers put up three runs in the third inning.

However, some more offense put the nail in the coffin as the Devils won 24-3. Devil offensive leaders were Brett Hogge (5-for-5) and Logan Bell (4-for-4) who provided nine of the Devils’ 26 hits on the day.
