Devils remain perfect in conference play

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up a pair of wins last week over Charles City and King William to improve to 15-3-1 overall on the season; 6-0 in conference play.

Last Thursday night’s Charles City contest was an easy one for the Devils who won in straight sets by scores of 25-7, 25-5, 25-2. Sarah Brown and Victoria Bing each served four aces, Nicole Brown and Madison South each served three.

Tuesday night’s King William game was a little more challenging. Mathews took the first set in dominating fashion, 25-7. The Cavaliers were able to post twice as many points in the final two sets but MHS still won decisively by scores of 25-14 and 25-15.

Every Devil player got in on the action. Hallie Duncan and Caroline Crittenden each had five kills while Anne Stewart, Lauren Mitchem, and Bing each had two, and Josey Bauby, South, Ashley Shackelford and Madisyn Jackson each added one.
