Devils post two wins; now 7-1 in conference

The Mathews Blue Devils varsity boys’ basketball squad picked up a pair of victories against district opponents King William and King and Queen during the past week, and now boast a record of 7-1 in the conference.

 

The JV Devils joined them with two wins of their own against these two opponents, and continue their recent success within their district.

 

Last Thursday night, both the JV and varsity Devils traveled to King William to face the Cavaliers. After trailing for three quarters, the JV Devils played a clutch-fourth quarter to come back and win by five, 41-36. Ethan Armistead led the Blue Devils’ offense with 21 points, while Zack Jarosz and Jalen Matthews followed him with seven and five points, respectively.

 

The varsity game provided a different scenario, as the Devils maintained the lead for all four quarters and ran away with a 15-point triumph, 47-32. Deondre Foster had 20 points, Cody Kelly had 13, and Chris Perreault tallied eig...
