Devils pick up forfeit win

The Mathews High School varsity football team picked up its first win of the season on Friday, but it wasn’t how they wanted it to happen.

Instead of playing against King and Queen in front of a homecoming weekend crowd, the Devils were forced to accept a forfeit win over the Tigers, who cancelled due to lack of players.

This Friday, Mathews (1-5) travels to King William to take on the 1-5 Cavaliers. The following Friday, Oct. 20, Mathews will host West Point in a game that will include the crowning of the MHS homecoming king and queen at halftime.

Prior to the Oct. 20 game, at 3:30 p.m., a Blue Devils tailgate and pep rally will be held at the school parking lot. Students, families and friends are invited to cheer on the team at that time. ...
