Devils pick up conference win

The varsity Mathews High School Blue Devils had two basketball games during the past week, traveling to Lancaster last Tuesday night and hosting the King and Queen Central Tigers on Friday night.

Tuesday night was a tough one, as the Blue Devils fell to the Lancaster Red Devils, 50-35. The Blue Devils’ shots just weren’t dropping in, and the Devils were killed on the offensive boards, allowing for a lot of offensive and easy buckets for Lancaster. A little hostility was shown in the latter half of the game between the two squads, who could meet again in regional play.

Friday night was another story. Hosting the Conference 42 foe, the Devils started off the game lights out, with a lockdown press defense creating many steals and easy buckets.
