Devils lose to Cavaliers; now 0-7

The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped to 0-7 on the season following a 53-0 shutout loss to the visiting King William Cavaliers.

In spite of the support of a big homecoming night crowd Friday, the Devils just couldn’t get anything going, as the King William offense struck early and often. The Cavaliers’ first touchdown came about a minute and a half into the game; widening the gap to 23-0 by the end of the opening quarter.

Blue Devil sophomore Jordan Bozza did manage an interception late in the first quarter, but the MHS offense couldn’t capitalize on it. Another standout was junior Mason Kent, who made a couple of receptions, including a big pass play on third-and-long just before the half. The Cavaliers went into halftime up, 45-0, with a running clock employed in the rest of the contest.
