Devils lose in final seconds to Panthers, 38-32

A last-second touchdown gave the Charles City Panthers the edge in a 38-32 victory over the host Mathews Blue Devils on Friday night at the school’s Ken Brown Field. The loss drops the Devils’ record to 4-5.

Josh Foster and Alec Thompson provided most of the scoring for Mathews, with Foster rushing for three touchdowns and Thompson scoring twice. Stuart Anderson also had a touchdown, in addition to three interceptions.

Drew Hudgins had a sack. Reggie Johnson had three catches for about 55 yards. The Devils were down late in the fourth quarter and tied it up in the last minute and a half. Mathews held Charles City off until the last few seconds of the game when they scored.

The Devils are now suiting up for their last regular season game tonight on the road against the Middlesex Chargers.

JV Devils

The JV Devils, meanwhile, fell at home to Middlesex on Monday night, 22-12. Both of the Devils’ touchdowns were scored before halftime which put them in the lead. Elija...
