Devils head into tournament play

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team is heading into the #3 seed in the Conference 42 tournament after dropping a conference game Tuesday night against the host King and Queen Tigers, 46-35.

Leading scorers on the night were Elijah Willis, Cody Kelly and Reggie Johnson.

Mathews will host West Point on Friday night for senior night, when the team will honor seniors Cody Kelly, Owen Cullison and Taiwan Forrest. 

Most likely, the varsity team will travel to West Point next Tuesday or Wednesday for the first round of the conference tournament.

  JV Devils

The junior varsity Devils, meanwhile, finish the year as conference champs, posting a 10-7 record (7-0 in the conference) with one game left to play. The team captured back-to-back conference championships under head coach C.K. Ambrose. The Devils defeated the King and Queen Central Tigers 55-32 on Tuesday night.
