Devils’ gridiron season comes to end with loss to Middlesex

The Mathews High School varsity football’s disappointing season came to an end last Thursday, as the Devils were overpowered by the home-standing Middlesex Chargers, 63-7.

The loss puts the Devils’ final record at 1-9 overall; the only win coming on week six against King and Queen. Middlesex, meanwhile, ended the year at 4-6 with two wins over Mathews, as well as victories over King and Queen and Rappahannock.

Mathews and Middlesex opened the 2012 season against one another, with the Chargers squeaking out a 27-23 win. Last Thursday’s game was a much more one-sided affair, with the only Mathews points coming off a 67-yard touchdown reception by Deondre Foster.
