Devils go 4-1 in Franklin Duals

The Mathews High School wrestling team went 4-1 on Saturday at the Franklin Duals.

In the first round, the Devils beat King and Queen, 60-3, with pins by Sam Moore, Harrison Cullison, Thomas Hall, Joseph Hall and Isaiah Maultsby.

The winning continued in the second round, as Mathews defeated Northumberland, 54-23, with pins by Caleb Sadler, Parker Thompson, Moore, Cody Correll and Maultsby. Maultsby got the only pin for Mathews in the third round as the Devils defeated Washington and Lee, 52-12. Mathews then defeated the host Franklin Broncos, 54-21, with Caleb Johnson, Correll, Cullison and Joseph Hall scoring pins. Mathews suffered its only loss in the fifth round, falling to Parry McCluer, 24-39. Dominick Cummings and Thompson scored pins for Mathews against the Fighting Blues.

Mathews will compete on Friday and Saturday in the Lafayette Ram Rumble....
