Devils get a strong start

The Mathews High School varsity Blue Devils baseball team is off to a 3-1 start after splitting a pair of games against the Rappahannock Raiders, and defeating the Northumberland Indians.

On March 19, the Devils hosted the Raiders. The Raiders have always been a rival of the Devils, so this game was key. Will Harrington got the start on the mound for the Devils, and after giving up a homer in the second, he held Rappahannock scoreless.

James Cook came on in relief and shut down the potent Raider offense. Marshall Barrack and Reggie Johnson led the offense for the Devils, with two RBIs apiece. The Devils defeated the Raiders, 6-1, for the first time in four years.

Last Thursday, the Devils traveled to the Raiders, who were seeking vengeance. The Devils came out firing, and scored four in the top of the first.
