Devils fall to Indians, 45-12

The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped its third straight game and fell to 1-3 on the season on Friday night, as the visiting Northumberland Indians dominated the Devils, 45-12.

In the first quarter, running back Jarius Monroe had a 14-yard run for the Devils’ first touchdown. In the second quarter, Monroe was in for another touchdown for the Devils. That was all the points Mathews managed to get on the scoreboard.

Overall on offense, quarterback Stuart Anderson had 67 rushing yards, Monroe had 64, Alec Thompson had 16, and Elijah Willis had 15. On defense, Anderson had 10 tackles and five sacks from his rover position. Tylon Forrest at defensive tackle had a sack. Linebacker Joseph Hall had four tackles. Defensive tackle John Edwards had three tackles. And cornerback Elijah Willis had an interception.
