Devils fall to Cavaliers

The Mathews High School varsity football team fell to 3-4 on the season following Friday’s 48-12 loss to King William.

Mathews and King William played a close game for the first half, but an interception for a touchdown on the last play before halftime sealed the victory for the Cavaliers, who were celebrating their homecoming.

Running back Josh Foster scored one of the Blue Devils’ touchdowns on a rushing play, while Stuart Anderson scored the other TD on a quarterback keeper. Other highlights for Mathews included long pass receptions by Anderson and Elijah Willis from quarterback Thurman Hudgins, Mason Fiscella’s sack and Drew Hudgins’s fumble recovery.

Senior running back/defensive back Hunter Wright had a strong game on both sides of the ball. On offense, he averaged five yards per carry.
