The Mathews High School varsity football team will open its 2018 season on Friday when the Devils play host to the Northampton Yellow Jackets in a non-conference game, starting at 7 p.m. at Ken Brown Field.

Mathews will kick off the season with a tailgate starting at 4:30 p.m. in the MHS parking lot. All are invited. Those attending can bring their cars and trucks and park in the marked-off areas for the tailgate and have their tents and tables all set with food and drinks.

The following Thursday, Aug. 30, Mathews will travel to Montross to face the Washington and Lee Eagles in a 7 p.m. game. The following Friday night, Mathews will host Lancaster in a 7 o’clock game during Market Days weekend. ...
