Devils end season with best record since 2004

The Mathews High School Blue Devils baseball team ended the year on a sad note, falling to Central Lunenburg in the first round of regionals Monday night. The Devils finished the year 18-4, winning their second consecutive Conference 42 title.

The Devils squared off against the Middlesex Chargers last Thursday night in the Conference 42 championship, barely escaping, 12-11. The Devils took a commanding 6-0 lead to start off the game behind Owens on the mound, who went three innings scoreless. However, beating a team three times in a season is never easy, and the Chargers came out firing. In the top of the seventh, the Chargers came back soaring, scoring eight runs to take an 11-10 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
