Devils defeat Windsor in soccer

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team traveled to Windsor last Thursday, with the Devils beating the homestanding Dukes, 4-2.

Mathews senior co-captain Jacob Johnson scored a lower corner goal early in the first half ofF a free kick to get the Devils’ momentum going. Shortly after that, senior co-captain Glenn Musgrove put a shot into the back of the net to put the Devils up 2-0. Mathews sat back on their heels towards the end of the first half, and that’s when the Dukes got a goal in.

Mathews came charging back in the second half, with goals from juniors Justin Jenkins and P.J. Johnson, with assists from Musgrove and freshman Ricky Rutter.

 

On Monday, Mathews hosted the Essex Trojans, with the Devils going down in defeat, 4-1. Despite the Devils’ best efforts and controlling the midfield for the majority of the game, the Trojans had some lucky breaks and shots. The lone goal was scored by P.J. Johnson with an assist from junior Kelly Nelson.
