Devils defeat Chargers; fall to Trojans, Pointers

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout victory on Monday over the visiting Middlesex Chargers. The Devils also suffered a pair of losses during the past week, falling to Essex on Friday, 3-0, and West Point last Wednesday, 3-2.

In the Middlesex game, Tim White and Adam Wade provided all the scoring with a pair of first-half goals. A strong defense which included Reagan Jackson was able to keep the Chargers at bay.

Sparks flew in the second half, with one player from each team ejected. This proved to be the most excitement in a scoreless second half. Mathews ended the night with 21 shots on goal.

On Friday, it was a different story as Essex completely dominated Mathews, with the Trojans scoring two first-half goals, both inside the 18-yard penalty box line.
