Devils beat K&Q, King William in football

It was a good week for Blue Devil football, as both the Mathews High School varsity and junior varsity squads earned wins. The varsity squad easily put away King and Queen in a Saturday afternoon conference game; two nights later, the JV team scored a convincing win over King William to improve to 2-0-1.

Mathews traveled to King and Queen Central on Saturday to take on the Tigers, who were celebrating their homecoming. It rained the entire time, from pre-game warmups until the Devils got back on the bus to return to Mathews.

In between, Mathews put together a strong rushing attack, led by quarterback Stuart Anderson (199 yards) and running back Jarius Monroe (200 yards) to crush the Tigers, 26-6. The win puts Mathews’ record at 3-3 for the season.
