Devils beat Chargers, 11-3

As the 2016 season draws to a close, the Mathews High varsity soccer team is in good position for post-season play. The Devils are 8-3, with losses to two larger schools—King William and Bruton.

Mathews hosted Middlesex and King William, defeating the Chargers last Wednesday, 11-3, and falling to the Cavaliers on Monday, 2-1. The junior varsity Devils split, beating Middlesex, 8-0, and falling to King William, 4-1.

After Middlesex surprised Mathews with an early goal three minutes into the game, the Devils dominated the rest of the action. Stuart Anderson answered the Chargers by scoring 45 seconds later. Kevin Jenkins gave Mathews the lead, with an assist from Zach Foss. Jenkins then scored two more goals to put Mathews up 4-1.
