Devils back in action, crush Raiders, 42-18

The Mathews High School varsity football team, after a bye week, apparently took advantage of its time off as the Devils returned to the gridiron Friday and dominated the Rappahannock Raiders on the road, 42-18.

In the first quarter, Jarius Monroe scored a safety for the Devils as the rover on defense. Quarterback Stuart Anderson scored on a rushing touchdown and then was in for the two-point conversion.

In the second quarter, Monroe—this time at his running back position—scored a rushing touchdown. He gained a total of 186 rushing yards in the game. Anderson picked up 50 yards on the ground. Mathews dominated the game from the opening kickoff and led by 30 points at the half.

On defense, linebacker Jake Wilson had five tackles. Rover Edward Wade had four tackles (one tackle for a loss of yards) and a sack.
