The Mathews High School boys’ cross country team ended its regular season on a high note, sweeping Lancaster and the host King William Cavaliers last Wednesday to finish the regular season undefeated.

Russell Reed led the Devils through the challenging course, taking first in 18:08. Chris Barnhardt (18:29) and Jamie van Emmerik (18:35) came in close behind, placing second and third. John Miles (18:47) and Kyle Slaughter (18:55) also ran impressive times to complete the sweep.
Paul Crook (sixth, 19:44) and Seth Diggs (ninth, 20:18) rounded out the top seven for the Blue Devils. Andrew Merz (10th, 20:20), Elisha Kane (11th, 20:28), Nick Brown (17th, 21:43), Ian Smith (22nd, 22:12), Sam Spadaccini (24th, 22:15) and P.J. Johnson (26th, 22:25) also ran strong races to conclude their seasons.
