Deputy’s mom makes the sheriff’s office happy with a Filipino meal

Filipino cuisine is not only the foods and methods passed down; some say it reflects a deep heritage of foods blending sweet and sour flavors. The following story illustrates all of the above, and the recipes give you the opportunity to experience Filipino cooking in your own kitchen. It was a special day recently at the Mathews County Sheriff Office. Deputy Deshun McGinnis’s birthday was celebrated as a special gift to the entire department from his mother, Vivian McGinnis. a lady known for her good cooking. She had prepared lunch using recipes from her native land of the Philippines. This is a mother’s love. Vivian has been doing this for the 11 years that Deshun has been in law enforcement, five of which has been in Mathews. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, Vivian repeats her special treats and delivers them to law enforcement offices wherever her son is serving. Deshun explained that it was a family tradition.
