DENISE LEE DICK

Denise Lee Dick, 78, of Bena, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Denise was born on May 7, 1945, to the late Charles and Charmain Golden of San Diego, Calif. She had a variety of careers over her lifetime, most notable was as the business owner of Sew City, where she met so many customers and employees that were dear friends until her death. Denise was active in numerous organizations, most recently as a member of the Red Hats and also was a very loyal and active member’s wife of the Abingdon Ruritan Club and a hospital volunteer at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Denise is survived by her husband Roger; her four daughters, Dayna (James), Tracy (Randy), Kelly, and Shannon (Rob); six grandchildren, Brad (Mindy), Brett, August, Tara (Dominic), Corbin (Maria), and Sean (Sophia); three great-grandchildren, Landon, Brookson, and Zoey; brothers, Bronce (Diane), Rick (Kathy), and Darrell (Laura); many nieces and nephews; her lifelong family friend Jan and her beloved rescue pup Marcus. Denise retained her childlike wonder and passion for all things throughout her life. She saw beauty and goodness in everything and everyone. In the family, Denise was known for having never met a stranger but for being one who took every meeting as an opportunity to find a friend. She was often teased for being able to have an hour-long conversation with a wrong number. Denise was also an adventurer who loved to travel and try new things. Her passion for cooking was appreciated by those lucky enough to experience it. Any excuse to celebrate was her motto and her children share many memories of Saint Patrick’s Day parties, magical Christmases, neighborhood cook-outs, and the best birthday parties. When under the light of Denise’s attention, it was impossible to not feel like the most special person in the room. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, and the funeral service to be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Kevin Smith with burial following at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. A reception and celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Bena. As a lifelong lover of all animals, especially dogs, memorial contributions may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society at PO Box 385, Gloucester, VA 23061. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
