Gloucester dropped to 1-5 with a 42-14 homecoming loss to Denbigh in football action Friday. Gloucester quarterback James Scott rushed for 215 yards and two touchdowns, but the Dukes’ defense gave up 441 yards and six TDs.
It looked like the tight game it was expected be early on, with Denbigh’s first touchdown quickly answered by Scott with a 32-yard TD run of his own. Then the Patriots’ offense took over and quickly added two more touchdowns before the first quarter ended.
Denbigh added another TD in the second while holding Gloucester scoreless and took a 28-7 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Both teams scored a touchdown in the third but Denbigh added another in the fourth while not allowing the Dukes any more points.
Denbigh quarterback Terrence Dingle passed for 164 yards and rushed for 97 in the Patriots’ win. Besides Scott’s performance, Gloucester got 94 rushing yards from Devon Pullen and interceptions by Robert Anderson and Brady Barefoot. Barefoot also had a 42-yard kick return and Anderson returned a kick 38 yards.
The Dukes now have three straight games on the road, the first with undefeated Heritage Friday night at Todd Stadium in Newport News.
