Demonstration, workshop part of Gloucester Arts Festival

Action is gearing up for this year’s Gloucester Arts Festival, which will be held throughout June, and registration is now open for a demonstration and workshop by award-winning artist Robert Johnson of Vienna, Virginia.

Johnson will give a demonstration on painting a still life and conduct a workshop on color and composition from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Holly Knoll, home of The Gloucester Institute, 6498 Allmondsville Road, Gloucester.

The morning session will consist of a two- to three-hour demonstration, after which there will be a quick lunch (ordered in advance). During the afternoon session, students will do their own painting with assistance from Johnson.

Johnson said he has a firm idea of how his next oil painting will turn out from the moment he applies the first brushstrokes to one of his “meticulously prepared canvasses or boards.”
