Deltas stage comeback against Pirates

After giving up six runs to the Peninsula Pirates in the first inning, the Deltaville Deltas scraped back, scoring seven unanswered runs on the way to a 9-6 victory on Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg.

Deltaville got off to a fantastic start, plating two runs in the top of the first off the bats of Scott Crump and Jacob Houston. However, the Pirates came out swinging in the bottom half of the inning, stringing together six runs to take command of the game.

However, the Deltas made a pitching change, going to recent Rappahannock High School standout Eamonn Collins. A 2015 VHSCA State All Star selection, Collins came in and dominated Pirate hitters, striking out 14 while allowing just two hits in 7-2/3 innings.

Meanwhile on offense the Deltas chipped away. After scoring two runs in the fifth to cut the Pirate advantage to 6-4, the Deltas took the lead in the seventh with a four-run rally. Deltaville tacked on an insurance run in the ninth before Bryan Bierlein relieved Collins on the ...
