Deltas fall to Pirates, finish third

The 2012 Deltaville Deltas’ season came to an end on Saturday night, as the Peninsula Pirates overcame a 5-2 Deltaville lead to win, 11-6.

With the loss, Deltaville was eliminated from tournament play, placing third in the Southern Virginia Baseball League. The Deltas’ final record stands at 16-9.

The Peninsula Cardinals defeated the Pirates, 5-4, on Sunday at CNU’s Captains Park for the championship, in a 13-inning thriller.

On Saturday night in Williamsburg, the Deltas jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and built a 5-2 lead by the bottom of the sixth. Starting pitcher Jordan Boze, who allowed a pair of first-inning runs, locked in to pitch four consecutive scoreless innings against the top run-producing team in the league.
