Deltas explode late to defeat Avalanche; host Mets Saturday

The Deltaville Deltas persevered through difficult early innings to rally for five sixth-inning runs, and came away with a 10-0 victory over the Richmond Avalanche on Saturday night in Deltaville.

The game was tough sledding for the Deltas’ offense in the early going. Avalanche starting pitcher Gabe Wallmeyer kept the Deltaville lineup off balance, scattering five hits over the first five frames. The Deltas managed to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Brandon Walker, and a series of Avalanche defensive errors allowed the Deltas to take a 3-0 lead in the fifth.

Wallmeyer, starting the inning just shy of 100 pitches, ran out of steam in the sixth. Walker started the rally with another single which scored Holden Sandridge and Scott Crump.
