Deltas crush Avalanche, host River Dogs Saturday

Eli Pittman pitched five scoreless innings, and nine different hitters collected hits as the Deltaville Deltas cruised past the Richmond Avalanche by the score of 14-4 on Friday night in Deltaville.

The Deltas moved to 5-0 on the season, and 4-0 in Richmond NABA league play. This weekend, another undefeated league team, the 3-0 Richmond River Dogs, visit Deltaville Ballpark for a 7:30 game Saturday night.

Against the Avalanche, Colton Smith put the Deltas on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single. In the third inning, the Deltas plated five runs to take a 6-0 lead, and extended the lead to 7-0 an inning later on a Travis Crump RBI single.

The Avalanche cut into the lead in the sixth with a three-run inning capped by a two-run homer. But the Deltas quickly responded with RBIs from Benny Walker and Braydon Enoch pushing the lead back to 10-3.

The teams traded runs an inning later to make the score 11-4, but the Deltas sealed it in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run rally capped by a Creston Saunders RBI hit.

Pittman was joined by Dylan Amend on the mound, with the workhorses of the Deltas early season pitching staff combining for seven innings and seven strikeouts. Justin Hale and Spencer Crittenden also pitched in relief.

Hudson McMinn, Walker, and Crump paced the Deltas hitting with two hits each.

Saturday’s game against the Yorktown Coconuts was scoreless when postponed in the second inning due to storms.
