Deltas’ comeback falls short

The Deltaville Deltas dug a deep hole early Saturday night, and despite a game-long comeback attempt, fell to the Newport News Cardinals by the score of 11-7.

Faced with an 8-0 deficit in the second inning, the Deltas cut the lead in half by the fifth. Kenny Parks got the Deltas on the board in the third when he scored on a Carter Biringer single, and the Deltas plated three more in the fifth on hits by Parks, Alexander Crittenden and Tyler Wood. 

The Cardinals held an 11-5 advantage going into the ninth. Deltaville managed two runs in the final frame, and left two more on base in the inning, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Parks and Crittenden paced the Deltas offense, Crittenden with a 4-for-5 night and Parks with three hits in five at-bats.  Will Barrack started on the mound for Deltaville, taking the loss and falling to 2-2 on the season.
