Deltas capture regular season title

The Deltaville Deltas captured its second Southern Virginia Baseball League regular season championship last weekend, defeating the York Cannons, 11-1, on Friday night.

Deltas slugger Chris King continued his month-long offensive onslaught Friday, blasting a first-inning three-run home run, part of a 3-for-4, five RBI night.

Recent Mathews High School graduate Nick Stump singled twice and plated a pair of RBIs, and Ryan Reynolds also contributed a two-hit game. Starting pitcher Smiley Smith scattered five hits on the way to his third pitching victory of the season.

The Deltas’ Saturday night contest was cancelled, as the Hampton Braves forfeited hours before the game.
