DeForge awarded 2025 Parks scholarship by VEA

Victor M. “Vic” DeForge, who graduated last month from Mathews High School, has been awarded a 2025 Beblon G. Parks Scholarship by the Virginia Education Association.
DeForge was a member of the MHS National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society and will head to Christopher Newport University in the fall.
The Parks Scholarship awards $1,000 to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career in education and is named for the VEA’s longtime and now retired Director of Field Support, Organizing and Minority Engagement.
“As I see it, no field or career would exist without educators who not only teach information but who also inspire and cultivate an analytical society,” said DeForge. “My freshman year, I saw no academic potential in myself, nor did anyone else, until I had a study hall teacher who encouraged me and showed me that teachers can genuinely care for their students.
