Deborah Hudgins Ferguson, born on May 27, 1956, passed away on December 18, 2025 at the age of 69. A lifelong native of Mathews County who later made her home in Virginia Beach.
Debbie devoted her life to creating a warm, welcoming haven for her family and friends. Her greatest joy and true calling was nurturing those she loved most—through delicious home-cooked meals shared around the table, endless care for her children and grandchildren, devoted support for her parents, and heartfelt conversations with dear friends and family. Debbie had a special gift for bringing light into any room. She cherished time spent outdoors, engaging in meaningful talks, and always finding ways to make others smile with her kindness and warmth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilton Stuart Hudgins and Betty Owens Hudgins, and her husband, Chief Boatswain’s Mate James Thomas Ferguson, USCG-ret. Debbie is survived by her siblings, Marlene Stillman and J.C. Hudgins; her children, Tom Jarvis (Amy), David Jarvis, Jeremiah Ferguson, Tony Ferguson, Rebecca Mahoney (Tom), and Amy Ferguson, and her 15 cherished grandchildren.
