Deadline extended for Gloucester School Board vacancy

The Gloucester County School Board has extended its deadline for applications for the York District board seat being vacated by Carla Hook to May 31. Hook has said she will vacate the seat on June 15.

Applicants must be registered York District voters. They should submit letters of interest, including a statement of qualifications, along with letters of support from registered York District voters, to board clerk Carol Dehoux at 6099 T.C. Walker Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Applicants will be given the opportunity to address the school board for up to 10 minutes during its June 13 meeting. They may also introduce up to two York District supporters who will be permitted to speak on their behalf for up to five minutes.

The board will interview applicants on June 22 in a closed session beginning at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to make an appointment to the seat during its work session that evening. The appointment is for a term that begins July 5 and ends Dec. 31.
