Day of Action events to be held Friday in Gloucester

On Friday, communities across the state will participate in the inaugural Feed Virginia Day of Action, an initiative of the Commonwealth Council on Bridging the Nutritional Divide and First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe.

Locally, events will be held at Woodville Park and the Gloucester Point Post Office. At Woodville Park in Ordinary, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., youth volunteers from the Gloucester Boys and Girls Club will harvest sweet potatoes, learning about their nutritional value and multiple ways to prepare them. The sweet potatoes will be delivered to local food banks.

From 1-6 p.m. at the Gloucester Point Post Office, people are invited to take part in Markwith Farms’ “Buy One, Give One” program. “Purchase locally grown produce, then purchase some extra for our neighbors in need,” a release from the Prevention, Health and Wellness Division of the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board stated.
