DAVID RUSSELL CHAPIN

David Russell Chapin, 79, of Gloucester, Va., passed peacefully on October 16, 2025. He was born in Auburn, N.Y., on October 4, 1946 to Russell and Marilyn (née Marsden) Chapin. He grew up in Cay-uga, N.Y., with his younger sister, Cynthia. David graduated from Union Springs High School in Cayuga in 1964 and continued on to study at Auburn Community College and Lynchburg College, where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in History. Throughout his childhood, he was active in Boy Scouts, ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, and as a teen, served as a lifeguard at Fillmore Glen State Park, N.Y. He married the love of his life, Janet (née Townsend), on August 1, 1969 in Auburn. Together, they welcomed four children, Aaron, Cara, Dylan, and Alex. They moved to the Wicomico area of Gloucester County in 1981, where David remained an active member of the Gloucester community. He spent the majority of his career working in sales at Ken Houtz Chevrolet. In his free time, he was an active member at Bethany United Methodist Church, where he served in many roles, including treasurer for the United Methodist Men and leader for the youth fellowship. He also coached Parks & Rec basketball and was the Scout Master for Cub Scout Pack 113. At home, he enjoyed watching sports and playing golf with his sons. His family will miss his humor, his lasagna and French toast, and his passion for good bread. David was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Cara. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Chapin; sister, Cynthia Maddox; sons, Aaron (Natalie), Dylan (Heidi), Alex (Lauren), and five grandchildren, Owen Shepard (Tessa), Charlotte, Henry, Hannah, and Xavier Chapin. The family will receive friends at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062, on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 10-10:45 a.m., followed by the chapel service at 11.
