DAVID PAUL RIESBECK

David Paul Riesbeck, 67, of Hayes, Va., died Monday, April 20, 2015.

Born in Newport News, he was the son of Lewis Riesbeck Sr. and Irene Hall Riesbeck. David lettered in track and field and graduated from the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School in 1971 as a Tool Engineer. He retired from Newport News Shipyard in 2007 after more than 30 years service and had received the prestigious President Model of Excellence in Leadership from Northrop Grumman.

David coached, played and was umpire/referee for football, baseball, volleyball, basketball and softball. He was inducted into the Tidewater ASA Hall of Fame. He loved to restore antique cars, spending time with family, and the Annual Faux Fishing Party with retired and current shipyard colleagues.

David is survived by his wife, Nancy Riesbeck; children, John (Lori) of Yorktown, Stephen of Maryland, Virginia Schuszler of Yorktown; step-daughter, Bonnie (Chad) Dietz of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, William (Debbie), Bernie (Randi), Carolyn (Mike), Cece (Ed), and Lewis; cousins; friends who loved him dearly, and family in Ireland.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home with interment in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family received friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton.

The family requests that memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
