DAVID GORDON WALLACE

Much beloved husband, father and grandfather, David Gordon Wallace, age 81, of Gloucester Point, died peacefully on Nov. 15, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Swansboro, N.C.

He bravely confronted and fought cancer for over four years. Gordon was a graduate of Achilles High School and Hampton Roads Business Academy. He served as a yeoman in the Navy from 1951-1954. In 1955, Gordon had the opportunity to join the Southland Life Insurance Company, a job in which he took pride. He truly relished the friendships he made during his 31 years in business. After retiring from the insurance business, he was a magistrate for Gloucester County for 20 years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

His entire goal in life was to help people. He was a man of great integrity, generosity, wisdom and kindness. He was a lifelong gardener and avid fisherman. He loved his family deeply and was intensely devoted to his wife, Gloria, serving as her caregiver throughout her battle with vascular dementia until his own health declined. We will miss him very much.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Anderton Wallace; son, Bill Wallace and wife Melinda Bihn; daughter, Gail Wallace Gillis and husband Greg; grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Sam and Rebecca, and a host of friends.

A funeral service to celebrate his life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Wolz officiating. Interment followed in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-8:30 on Monday evening at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family also received friends from 1-1:45 prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

In memory of Gordon, the family suggests contributions be given to the children’s ministry of Bethany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 527, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062.

Arrangements by Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point.
