DAVID CARROLL BROWN

David Carroll Brown, 60, of Gloucester, passed from this world 27 September 2013 at Riverside Regional Medical Center surrounded by loving family and friends.

David had been a member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church since childhood. He held numerous positions in the construction industry over his lifetime and was employed by Hall Construction prior to his illness and passing. His time and close friends at Hall Construction were a focal point in his life. He was a Master Carpenter and firmly believed in quality work with no shortcuts.

In recent days he could always be found drinking a cup of his beloved coffee while warmly greeting family and friends on his back porch. Even during his last days, he was a cheerleader for his fellow patients and his caring medical staff. He always brought a smile to their faces and words of encouragement. He will be remembered for many reasons, but his love of family, his unselfish and caring nature, and his willingness to help anyone will be key points of his legacy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah A. Brown; stepson, Archie Williams Jr., and a special little Angel, his granddaughter, Caitlynn Hogge.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ethel Marion Brown; children, Donna Hughes (Doug), Michele McFarland (Dwayne), Amy Rivera (Armando), and April Hogge (Calvin); grandchildren, Laney Hughes, Archie Williams III, Shi Garn, Shelbe McFarland, Lacee Barnett, Austin Barnett, Bella Rivera, Emma Hogge and Eastin Hogge; father, Carroll Evans Brown; sister, Beulah Dale Brown (Danny); brothers, Randolph Taylor Brown (Helen), Neal Evans Brown (Kim), and Thomas Bradley Brown (Robin); special friends, Carolyn and Gibby Gibbs Jr., Bubba and Terri Bonniville, and Hall Construction co-workers; special sisters-in-law, Beatrice Rhodes, Helen Smith (Herbert) and Linda Mabry; brother-in-law, Jerry Croswell (Grace); a very special niece, Becky McDaniel, and a large host of other beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial service conducted by Pastor Bill McCullough was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home Chapel, Gloucester Point. Following the service, family and friends gathered at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, 9117 Glass Road, Hayes, Va., for a reception.

In David’s memory, the family requests that contributions be made to Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1263, Hayes, Va. 23072 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. G. Edward Mowry, 7274 Joseph Lewis Road, Hayes, Va. 23072.
