DAVID ALFRED MCCAY

David Alfred McCay, age 71, of Gloucester, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife, his daughter, and nieces, Jennifer and Christine, on Dec. 6, 2017, having succumbed to pancreatic cancer. 

David was born and raised in Newport News, and graduated St. Vincent High School. His education, after high school, included a Certificate for Drafting and Design, completion of 33 hours towards an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Technology, welding school, Certificate of Journeyman Machinist, and a completed course in Application of Computers to program numerical control equipment.

He was a Machine Shop Supervisor for Jefferson Lab for 29 and a half years. 

David was an amateur gunsmith, builder of many home projects, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, lifetime member of Lafayette Gun Club, and an avid griller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman C. McCay Sr. and Marguerite P. McCay.

Survivors include his wife, Geray McCay; daughter, Heather B. McCay; brothers, John F. McCay (Frances), Lyman C. McCay Jr.; 16 nieces and great-nieces and 14 nephews and great-nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family greeted friends prior to the service from 6-7.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his niece, Jennifer Smith for taking such good care of her uncle during his last days.
