DAV chapter holds 9/11 observance

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 58 of Gloucester held a 9/11 remembrance and flag-raising ceremony Sunday. The ceremony’s guest speaker was Francis Mitchell, Department Commander of the Virginia DAV.

In his speech, Mitchell discussed the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 and how that it impacted the nation. He said people will long remember where they were and how they felt that day when the towers fell.

Mitchell said patriotism rose after 9/11 and put on display as United States flags started to be flown everywhere. Mitchell said though he sees fewer flags being flown these days it doesn’t mean people’s admiration for those who served and those who were lost has ended.
