Darnell Rowe Wells, age 65, died peacefully at home in Mathews on Monday, March 26, 2018.

She was born and raised on Gwynn’s Island. She graduated from Mathews High School, received a Bachelor of Education degree from VCU and a Master in Education degree from Binghamton University. 

She taught school for many years in and out of the area, prior to her son being born in 1983. She was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed being a grandmother over the last two and a half years. With her husband, she had lived in many areas of the country and still had a home in the York, Pennsylvania, area.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia Mae Rowe, and her father, Shelton C. Rowe.

She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur L. Wells; a son, Aaron Arthur Wells and wife Angie; grandson, Andrew Wells, and many aunts and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 29, 2018, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. A funeral service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church on Friday, March 30, 2018, at 3 p.m. with burial to follow at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a meal will be served at Salem UM Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Mathews, Va. or to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Red Lion, Pa.
